Electrical Engineer (Estates Technician)

About the role

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer (Estates Technician) to join the Estates & Facilities team of a large NHS Trust in Essex. The role involves maintaining critical electrical infrastructure that supports 24/7 patient care across a complex healthcare environment.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on all electrical systems.
• Diagnose and rectify faults in generators, lighting, power distribution, UPS, fire alarm and nurse‑call systems.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns and critical incidents to minimise service disruption.
• Install, refurbish and improve electrical equipment throughout the estate.
• Complete maintenance records and compliance documentation using CAFM systems.
• Liaise with contractors, colleagues and service users to ensure safe and efficient delivery of works.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, Trust procedures and statutory requirements.

Required profile

• NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation, Electrical Maintenance, Building Services Engineering or equivalent.
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
• Completed electrical apprenticeship or relevant City & Guilds qualifications.
• Experience in building services, estates maintenance or facilities management within healthcare, commercial or industrial settings.
• Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic abilities across a wide range of electrical systems.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe working practices.
