Emergency Call Handler – Essex

About the role

Join the Emergency Operations Centre in Chelmsford as a 999 Emergency Call Handler. You will be the first point of contact for callers in crisis, providing calm, accurate assistance and ensuring patients receive the right care promptly.

Key responsibilities

• Answer operational emergency calls received by the EOC.
• Use the clinical triage software to prioritise calls according to urgency.
• Enter call details accurately and promptly into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
• Provide pre‑arrival advice to callers where appropriate.
• Maintain high standards of customer service while handling sensitive information.

Required profile

• Ability to stay calm and think clearly under pressure.
• Strong communication skills and empathy for callers.
• Willingness to undergo online assessments and enhanced background checks.
• Commitment to continuous learning and adherence to NHS standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
• Experience using clinical triage software tools.
