Engineering Director – London
Careers at Eucalyptus · UK - HQ - London
Job description
About the role
Eucalyptus, the consumer healthcare platform behind Hims & Hers, is looking for an Engineering Director to lead its London engineering hub. The role unifies two engineering organisations into one team of about 35 engineers (growing toward 50), acts as the primary engineering partner for UK commercial and product leaders, and reports to the CTO in Sydney. It follows a 3-day hybrid schedule.
Key responsibilities
- Unify two engineering organisations into one team, establishing a common way of planning, building, shipping and holding each other accountable.
- Run the London engineering site, including dotted-line support for US-focused teams in London, and make London an attractive place for engineers.
- Partner with UK commercial, clinical and product leaders as a peer, evaluating trade-offs through a commercial lens.
- Shape what is built, not just how, and instil a thoughtful product instinct across the management team.
- Own senior hiring in London, set quality standards and mentor engineering managers.
- Strengthen delivery predictability, quality and operational reliability across a distributed organisation spanning Sydney, London and the US.
Required profile
- Managed an engineering organisation of 30+ people through managers, with at least five years of experience developing other managers.
- Guided an organisation through significant structural change such as an integration, restructure or operational overhaul.
- Demonstrated commercial fluency on revenue, margin and prioritisation.
- Comfortable managing a site distant from headquarters across time zones, using asynchronous communication.
Required skills
- Uses AI tooling in its own work and has changed how a team builds with it.
- Technically strong, able to evaluate system architecture and govern an ecosystem built on React, React Native, TypeScript, Go microservices, GraphQL, Kubernetes and GCP.
- Nice to have: regulated-sector experience (healthtech, fintech, gaming) and post-acquisition integration experience.
What we offer
- Employee options programme and annual development budget plus 3 days of professional development leave.
- Hybrid setup with 3 days a week in the Old Street office.
- Private health insurance through Vitality or a monthly wellness allowance.
- 25 days of holiday, enhanced parental leave and work from anywhere 3 weeks a year.
