Engineering Operations Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Operations Manager to lead a flagship automated logistics site in Basildon. The role offers full ownership of a major customer‑focused distribution centre, allowing you to shape the culture, build a high‑performing team and drive engineering excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Lead engineering and operations teams across a highly automated logistics facility.
• Recruit, develop and mentor managers, engineers and support staff.
• Establish and nurture a safety‑first, continuous‑improvement culture.
• Act as senior site representative, building strong customer relationships.
• Manage operational budgets, forecast CapEx and control expenditures.
• Deliver contractual KPIs, service levels and engineering performance targets.
• Implement robust processes, procedures and operational standards.
• Drive continuous‑improvement initiatives to maximise system reliability and efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Degree in Engineering, Science or a related technical discipline.
• Proven senior leadership experience managing large engineering or operational teams.
• Strong background in automated logistics, distribution, manufacturing or similar complex engineering environments.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, KPIs and operational performance.
• Excellent stakeholder and customer relationship management skills.
• Effective communication, people development and leadership capabilities.
