ERAS and Prehabilitation Nurse

About the role

The ERAS and Prehabilitation Nurse will join the surgical team at Western General Hospital, supporting patients through enhanced recovery pathways and pre‑operative conditioning. This role combines clinical expertise with leadership to deliver high‑quality, compassionate care.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver pre‑habilitation programmes for surgical patients.
• Implement and monitor Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols.
• Provide patient education and support throughout the peri‑operative journey.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including surgeons, physiotherapists, dietitians and anaesthetists.
• Collect and analyse outcome data to drive continuous improvement.
• Participate in clinical education, induction and preceptorship activities.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (NMC) with experience in surgical or acute care.
• Demonstrated commitment to patient‑centred care and diversity and inclusion.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Willingness to develop professionally within NHS Lothian’s strategic framework.
