Estate Operative – Full‑time Temporary Role

About the role

The Estate Operative will maintain the appearance and safety of communal and external areas across the estate in Croydon. This full‑time, three‑month temporary position involves cleaning, basic maintenance, and supporting resident services.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out regular estate inspections and report maintenance issues.
• Keep communal areas, bin stores, car parks and cycle stores clean, safe and presentable.
• Perform litter picking, refuse management and basic cleaning duties.
• Assist with minor maintenance tasks such as adjusting doors, hinges and fixtures.
• Support soft‑landscaping activities including watering, weed removal and leaf clearance.
• Help test building systems, including emergency lighting and fire safety equipment.
• Monitor health and safety compliance, including COSHH and risk assessments.
• Assist with contractor management, sign‑in procedures and permit checks.
• Support building security, CCTV monitoring and visitor management.
• Respond to resident enquiries, support move‑ins/move‑outs and community events.

Required profile

• Experience in a customer‑service or service‑delivery environment.
• Background in basic cleaning, maintenance or repair tasks.
• Understanding of health and safety requirements, including COSHH.
• Clear and professional communication with a wide range of people.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Physically capable of manual duties, including lifting and using cleaning equipment.
• A full clean driving licence is advantageous.

What we offer

• Hourly rate of £17.59 PAYE or £23.24 UMB.
• Three‑month fixed‑term contract with possible extension.
• Full‑time schedule, Monday‑Friday, 36 hours.
