EYFS Teaching Assistant (Nursery Nurse)

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated EYFS Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant primary school in Wigan. Working closely with the class teacher, you will help create a nurturing environment where young learners can develop essential literacy, numeracy and social skills during their early years.

Key responsibilities

• Support the class teacher in delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate EYFS lessons.
• Assist with daily care, supervision and emotional support of children.
• Work one‑on‑one or in small groups to develop basic literacy and numeracy skills.
• Plan and prepare play‑based activities that encourage exploration and social interaction.
• Monitor, record and report children’s progress to teachers and parents.
• Foster a safe, stimulating and inclusive learning environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, preferably in an EYFS setting.
• Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Early Years Education or equivalent.
• Good knowledge of the EYFS curriculum and child development principles.
• Strong communication skills and a caring, patient attitude.

Required skills

• Understanding of early literacy and numeracy foundations.
• Familiarity with phonics programmes such as Read Write Inc.
• Ability to record and report progress accurately.
• Experience supporting children with SEND or EAL is desirable.
