Family Court Adviser – Qualified Social Worker (CAFCASS)

About the role

The Family Court Adviser provides advanced social work support within family proceedings, ensuring that children’s welfare and safeguarding remain central to every decision. This contract position works closely with courts, children, and families across the Middlesbrough/Teeside area.

Key responsibilities

• Assess risk and analyse complex family cases for court proceedings.
• Provide expert advice to judges on child protection and welfare concerns.
• Conduct post‑first hearing work, including detailed assessments, direct work with children and families, and report writing.
• Support private law cases, offering safeguarding advice and helping families focus on the child’s needs.
• Collaborate with professionals and the judiciary under the Child Focused Court Model to reduce delays and improve outcomes.

Required profile

• Recognised Social Work qualification.
• Minimum three years post‑qualifying experience working with children and families.
• Strong assessment, communication, negotiation and case‑management abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage high‑conflict situations professionally.
