FDIR Engineer – Spacecraft Fault Management

About the role

ClearSpace is seeking an FDIR Engineer to join its London team, working on current missions and future projects that enable sustainable space operations. The role involves developing fault detection, isolation and recovery concepts from early mission design through to verification and in‑orbit support.

Key responsibilities

• Define, develop and maintain the spacecraft FDIR concept, architecture and implementation strategy in collaboration with Systems, Software, Avionics, Operations and QA teams.
• Derive, allocate and manage FDIR requirements, ensuring their implementation across hardware and software subsystems.
• Perform failure analyses to identify fault propagation paths, detection mechanisms and recovery strategies.
• Support RAMS and safety activities by providing FDIR inputs and ensuring consistency with reliability objectives.
• Define and execute verification and validation activities, including test planning, procedure development, execution and reporting.
• Participate in technical reviews, mission preparation, LEOP and in‑orbit anomaly investigations.

Required profile

• 5‑7 years of spacecraft systems engineering experience, including FDIR design, development and verification.
• Experience in satellite engineering domains such as operations, software, AOCS/GNC.
• University degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent industry experience.
• Strong sense of responsibility, self‑motivation and ability to work autonomously.
• Excellent problem‑solving and interpersonal skills.
