Field Interviewer (Part‑time) – Dumfries

About the role

NatCen is seeking part‑time Field Interviewers to join its research team in Dumfries. You will go into local communities, knock on doors and conduct face‑to‑face interviews that capture real experiences on health, housing, transport and other public‑interest topics.

Key responsibilities

• Visit households in Dumfries and conduct research interviews using a tablet or laptop.
• Introduce yourself to participants who have received a prior invitation letter and explain the purpose of the study.
• Record responses accurately while complying with confidentiality and DBS requirements.
• Manage travel to interview locations, submit mileage and travel‑time records.

Required profile

• Valid UK driving licence and sole use of a car.
• Class 1 business insurance for the vehicle.
• Right to work in the UK and willingness to complete a DBS check.
• Reliable home broadband and a laptop or tablet with a camera.
• At least 18 hours per week availability and flexibility for weekdays, evenings and weekends.
• Strong verbal and written English communication.

Required skills

• Comfortable using basic technology (tablet or laptop) to guide interviews.

What we offer

• £20‑£30 per interview, plus admin fees, holiday pay, travel time (£4.68 hour) and mileage (36p per mile).
• Performance bonuses (£250 after launch and at two‑ and four‑month milestones).
• Average hourly rate of approximately £15.12, higher for experienced interviewers.
