Job description

About the role

Insite Energy supports heat and cooling networks (communal energy or district heating) in the UK, providing metering, billing, installation and maintenance of pay-as-you-go equipment. The Maintenance Team keeps metering, pay-as-you-go and related IT equipment running, and at times supports the Installation team with commissioning and retrofit. As a Field Technical Engineer you will install, commission, fault-find and maintain heat network equipment (HIUs, valves, meters, PAYG devices and metering systems) in client developments and customers' homes, mostly in the built environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Install and commission Insite prepayment and controlled credit systems, using a laptop and tablet to commission metering equipment and update records.
  • Fault-find on site, liaise with other trades, the main contractor and site staff (clients, principal contractors, consultants and sub-contractors).
  • Replace, maintain and service HIUs, MVHR units, FCUs and cooling meters, mainly in occupied homes.
  • Maintain in-property heating and cooling controls and systems, and retrofit multi-utility Pay-As-You-Go metering systems (prepayment valve, mains spur, wiring and commission).
  • Install IT gateways and radio frequency equipment, and support AMR systems (dataloggers, gateways, repeaters, routers, IP power-down plugs, heat meters, MBUS and ZigBEE networks).
  • Provide planned and reactive maintenance to plantrooms, carry out monthly inspections and replace components such as pumps and valves.
  • Carry out post-installation upgrades, handle reactive calls and represent Insite professionally with clients and residents.
  • Keep spares and consumables in good order and follow health and safety rules on site and in vehicles.

Required profile

  • NVQ level 2 or higher in plumbing and heating (essential).
  • CSCS card (or able to obtain one); NIC 18th edition in domestic wiring desirable, with training offered.
  • Desirable: SMSTS or H&S qualification, first aid training.
  • UK driving licence with minimal or no penalty points, CRB basic clearance, eligible to work in the UK and two satisfactory references.
  • Confident with laptops and tablets (training provided), customer-focused and able to work independently while contributing to team goals.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary based on knowledge, skills and experience.
  • 25 days holiday per year plus bank and public holidays.
  • Pension with 4% employer matching.
  • Free Employee Assistance Programme and a CSR programme offering up to 2 paid volunteer days a year.
  • 26-week probation period and regular social events.

Hours are 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday 08:00-20:00, with the office in Moorgate, London and primarily field-based across Greater London, with occasional overnight UK-wide travel.
