File Handler – Legal Claims Specialist

About the role

The File Handler will manage an own caseload within the Military Disease department, specialising in NIHL (noise‑induced hearing loss) claims and potentially other disease cases. You will progress claims in line with strategy to achieve desired outcomes while maintaining profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Review documents and prepare reports
• Develop an assistant fee earner
• Handle disclosure and review evidence, including records
• Conduct investigations with insured parties and obtain witness statements
• Instruct experts and attend conferences and trials
• Manage routine correspondence and court appointments
• Liaise with insurers and insureds, taking instructions
• Ensure adherence to court timetables and SRA standards

Required profile

• Technically proficient in handling NIHL disease cases (minimum requirement)
• Additional short‑tail disease experience desirable
• Effective negotiator with strong initiative
• Excellent listening and verbal communication skills
• High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
• Self‑organised, able to prioritise workload and meet targets
