Finance Controller – Commercial Finance Leader

About the role

This is a hands‑on Finance Controller position within a family‑owned business that has recently joined a larger group. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will own the finance function, improve processes, strengthen controls and provide commercial insight to drive performance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day finance activities, ensuring robust controls and accurate reporting.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, financial commentary and KPI reports for group submission.
• Manage cash flow, purchase ledger, sales ledger, payroll and banking operations.
• Partner with operational teams to deliver commercial analysis, costing and profitability reporting.
• Drive improvements to finance systems, processes and controls.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and business planning cycles.
• Lead the annual audit process and liaise with external stakeholders.
• Monitor project performance and provide financial insight to enhance operational efficiency.
• Assist senior management with strategic decision‑making through detailed financial analysis.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
• Previous experience as a Finance Controller, Finance Manager or Finance Business Partner.
• Strong management accounting background with commercial awareness.
• Experience managing the full finance function in an SME or operational environment.
• Proactive attitude to improving systems and processes.
• Confidence to challenge, influence and communicate with stakeholders.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
