Finance Manager

About the role

The School of Clinical Medicine Cluster at the University of Cambridge is recruiting a Finance Manager to manage and oversee the financial matters of five academic departments: Radiology, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Genomic Medicine. The departments have clustered their Professional Services staff into an integrated team with specialist groups in HR, Finance and Education, and the Finance Manager leads the finance team with four direct reports, reporting directly to the Business and Operations Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts
• Prepare annual financial submissions
• Carry out financial data analysis
• Provide financial, budgetary and planning advice to senior management and departmental staff, including the five Heads of Department
• Take responsibility for financial controls and planning within the departments
• Develop and implement new financial processes and procedures to meet the growing financial needs of the departments, which are expanding through capital projects and academic recruitment

Required profile

• Degree in accounting or equivalent level of qualification
• Advanced knowledge of accounting and research grants
• Substantial experience in a senior finance management role in a similar environment
• Ability to pass a basic criminal records check and a security check after accepting an offer
