Financial Accountant – 12‑Month Fixed‑Term Contract (Maternity Cover)

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Financial Accountant to join our SSC General Ledger Finance Team on a 12‑month fixed‑term maternity cover. The role is hybrid, with three days in the Wythenshawe office and two days remote, and offers a competitive salary plus an excellent benefits package.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and post month‑end journals, ensuring a clear audit trail.
• Maintain and reconcile balance‑sheet items for allocated entities, providing high‑quality narratives.
• Support the preparation of year‑end financial statements under FRS102.
• Manage external statutory audit requests and internal audit queries.
• Handle quarterly VAT returns and corporation tax calculations, meeting HMRC deadlines.
• Assist with IFRS quarterly reporting, including aged receivable analysis and group consolidation packages.
• Approve bank payments in line with the Procure‑to‑Pay process.

Required profile

• Qualified or part‑qualified accountant (CIMA, ACA, ACCA, QBE or equivalent experience).
• Previous experience in a similar role within a large or complex organisation.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge, especially in VAT, corporation tax and statutory reporting.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
