Financial Accountant – Birmingham

About the role

We are seeking a Financial Accountant to join our client’s finance team in central Birmingham. The role involves managing balance‑sheet accounting, preparing VAT and tax returns and supporting the production of statutory accounts.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and review balance‑sheet accounts, process journals and perform reconciliations.
• Prepare and submit internal and external periodic financial reports for stakeholders.
• Support the preparation of statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors to resolve queries.
• Produce technical papers for year‑end accounts and ensure compliance with group accounting policies and accounting standards.
• Prepare periodic VAT returns and manage the relationship with HMRC.
• Assist with corporation and deferred tax calculations on a periodic basis.
• Provide variance analysis on balance sheet, cash flow and debtor movements, suggesting process improvements and automation.
• Offer ad‑hoc support and analysis to the Financial Controller.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
• Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and day‑to‑day balance‑sheet accounting.
• Experience with VAT and tax compliance.
• Proven experience in process improvement and internal controls.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non‑financial colleagues.
• Experience developing financial modelling tools.
