Financial Controller

About the role

Elite Project Group, a leading sports management and consultancy agency, is seeking a Financial Controller to own the accounting operations, financial controls and reporting for the group. You will ensure that financial records are accurate, timely and compliant, providing the numbers directors rely on.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, profit & loss, balance sheet and performance commentary.
• Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes using Xero and coordinate statutory filing with external accountants.
• Develop the annual budget with directors, maintain rolling forecasts and manage cash‑flow visibility.
• Oversee accounts payable, sales invoicing, credit control and staff expense reconciliation.
• Prepare VAT returns, liaise with payroll providers on PAYE and pension compliance, and support corporation tax filings.
• Interpret multi‑party contractual agreements and ensure financial processes meet regulatory scrutiny in professional football.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience in financial reporting, month‑end/year‑end close and statutory compliance.
• Proven ability to manage budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow management.
• Experience line‑managing junior finance staff and acting as primary contact for external accountants and payroll providers.
• Strong understanding of VAT, PAYE, pension and corporation tax requirements.
