Forensic Investigator - Fire Investigation

About the role

Sedgwick is looking for a Forensic Investigator to join its expanding fire investigation team in Northwest England. The role investigates fire and explosion incidents across domestic, commercial and industrial settings, including complex and high-value losses, and supports insurance and legal claims by giving impartial, evidence-based conclusions.

Key responsibilities

• Determine the origin, cause and development of fires through systematic scene examination, evidence collection, witness interviews and scientific analysis
• Attend fire scenes throughout the UK, document findings and examine electrical and mechanical appliances
• Recover evidence and work with senior investigators, insurers, loss adjusters, solicitors and other stakeholders
• Write clear, detailed and impartial technical reports and give expert opinion

Required profile

• Degree in a relevant discipline such as Fire Engineering, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Forensic Science, or equivalent industry experience
• Demonstrable experience investigating the origin and cause of fire and explosion incidents
• Full UK driving licence is essential
• Experience as an expert witness or giving expert opinion is advantageous; insurance industry experience is beneficial but not essential

Required skills

• Sound understanding of fire dynamics, fire scene examination and evidence preservation
• Ability to analyse complex technical information and write technical reports for clients, insurers and legal proceedings
• Familiarity with fire investigation legislation, standards and guidance
