Freelance Commercial Manager (Gas)

About the role

Rise Technical Recruitment Limited is seeking a Freelance Commercial Manager to lead the commercial function for a growing gas utilities contractor. The role will involve overseeing commercial activities across multiple live projects, from inception to final account, and mentoring a junior quantity surveyor. You will work closely with the Operations Director and Group Commercial Director to maximise performance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day commercial function across multiple gas utility projects.
• Produce CVRs, forecasts, commercial reports and financial performance analysis.
• Manage subcontractors, valuations, compensation events, variations and final accounts.
• Administer NEC3 and NEC4 contracts on live projects.
• Mentor and develop a Junior Quantity Surveyor.

Required profile

• Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor with gas utilities, MRP or infrastructure experience.
• Strong knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
• Proven ability to manage commercial performance of several projects simultaneously.
• Leadership experience with mentoring responsibilities.
• Full UK driving licence.
