Freelance/Interim Account Director – Healthcare Policy & Public Affairs

About the role

This freelance/interim position is for an experienced Account Director to lead healthcare policy, advocacy and public affairs accounts for a leading communications consultancy. The role is based in London with a hybrid working model and will span 3 to 6 months.

Key responsibilities

• Own client relationships, ensuring high‑quality delivery, client satisfaction and commercial performance.
• Design and manage political and NHS campaigns aimed at influencing policy outcomes.
• Organise and lead stakeholder engagement events with politicians, NHS officials, patient groups and other key audiences.
• Provide strategic intelligence and insight, leveraging personal networks and policy expertise.
• Review communications, reports and deliverables for accuracy and professionalism.
• Identify growth opportunities within existing accounts and contribute to new business pitches.
• Support expert steering groups to develop thought‑leadership content.
• Mentor and guide junior team members.

Required profile

• Significant experience in a public affairs consultancy, in‑house public affairs team, NGO, Parliament or similar environment.
• Deep knowledge of UK health policy, NHS dynamics and the commercial healthcare landscape.
• Proven track record of managing healthcare policy or public affairs accounts.
• Strong analytical, critical‑thinking and attention‑to‑detail abilities.
• Leadership skills with a history of inspiring and directing teams.
• Business acumen, including budget management.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across senior levels.
