Functional Skills Tutor (1:1 English & Maths)

About the role

Prospero Teaching is seeking enthusiastic Functional Skills Tutors to deliver one‑to‑one English and Maths tuition for children and young people across Hampshire. You will work closely with local authorities to provide personalised support for learners who need alternative educational provision.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver 1:1 functional skills lessons in English and/or Maths.
• Adapt teaching materials and approaches to meet individual learning needs.
• Collaborate with local authority partners to monitor progress.
• Support learners with additional needs such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH, anxiety, school avoidance or EHCPs.
• Maintain accurate records of sessions and outcomes.

Required profile

• Minimum six months experience in an educational setting.
• Proven experience delivering or supporting functional skills English and/or Maths.
• Ability to tailor sessions for learners with SEND or additional needs (desirable).
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Patient, reliable and engaging approach.
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
