Functional Skills Tutor

About the role

Prospero Teaching is seeking a qualified Functional Skills Tutor to work with 1‑to‑1 students in the Wirral area. The role combines classroom teaching of core functional skills with mentoring activities that help young people integrate into the community, develop CVs, plan for the future and build essential life skills.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver functional skills tuition (English, maths, ICT) to individual learners.
• Provide mentoring support, including local area trips and guidance on CV writing and future planning.
• Support learners with special educational needs (SEN) and disengaged pupils.
• Collaborate with the team to tailor learning plans and monitor progress.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Experience working with SEND or disengaged pupils in the UK.
• UK teaching experience and a creative, patient approach.
• Right to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
• Two professional child‑related references.
