Group Commercial Director – Civils & Infrastructure

About the role

The Group Commercial Director will lead commercial strategy for a fast‑growing civil engineering and infrastructure group operating across the UK. Reporting directly to the Board, you will shape the commercial direction of multiple businesses delivering groundworks, drainage, utilities and infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the Group’s commercial strategy to drive profitability and growth.
• Lead contract negotiations and oversee projects from tender through to final account.
• Manage commercial performance, forecasting, margin improvement and work‑in‑progress control.
• Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risk across the organisation.
• Oversee procurement activities and build strong supplier relationships.
• Lead, mentor and develop high‑performing commercial teams while improving systems and processes.

Required profile

• Significant senior commercial experience within civil engineering, infrastructure or construction.
• Proven track record of delivering profitable projects and managing commercial teams.
• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field (RICS/CIOB membership desirable).
• Strong leadership, negotiation and stakeholder management capabilities.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of construction contracts and commercial management.
• Expertise in commercial, financial and contractual aspects of large‑scale projects.
• Ability to manage risk and drive margin improvement.
