Handy Person – Bedfont Lane Children’s Home

About the role

The Handy Person will be based at Bedfont Lane Children’s Home and will ensure the building is kept safe, clean and well‑maintained. Working within Children’s Safeguarding and Specialist Services, you will carry out day‑to‑day repairs, maintenance and redecoration, supporting a safe environment for children with disabilities and young people in care.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out general internal and external maintenance, repairs and redecoration.
• Conduct Health and Safety checks and complete risk assessments.
• Prioritise repairs, manage budgets and liaise with managers to resolve issues.
• Maintain a hazard‑free environment for residents and staff.
• Support care leavers by helping them develop practical independence skills in their own homes.

Required profile

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong commitment to safeguarding and the wellbeing of children and young people.
• Willingness to engage with young people to develop their life‑skills.
• Good organisational skills to manage repair priorities and budgets.

Required skills

• Health and Safety knowledge and risk assessment experience.
• Building maintenance and repair skills.
• Basic redecoration techniques.
