Head of Building Services & Facilities Management

About the role

We are seeking a senior leader to shape and deliver the strategic direction of building services, engineering and facilities management across a large, complex public sector estate. The role is based in Glasgow with national travel and offers an initial six‑month contract with the prospect of becoming permanent.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee national delivery of hard and soft facilities management services.
• Lead the management of mechanical and electrical systems, maintenance programmes and life‑safety systems.
• Manage supplier and contractor relationships, ensuring commercial and contractual compliance.
• Develop and lead high‑performing, multidisciplinary teams across a complex operational environment.

Required profile

• Extensive senior leadership experience in building services, engineering or facilities management.
• Proven track record delivering large‑scale property or estate programmes.
• Experience managing compliance, life‑safety and M&E systems and operational FM delivery.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and navigate complex stakeholder environments.
• Strong commercial and contractual knowledge, preferably with NEC4 frameworks.
• Experience driving innovation, digital transformation and service improvement initiatives.
• Professional accreditation (e.g., MRICS, CEng, MCIBSE) and a relevant degree.
• Eligibility to obtain SC‑Level security clearance.
