Head of Company Commercial Department – Solicitor

About the role

This senior position leads the Company Commercial department of a well‑established law firm in Gloucestershire. You will shape the department’s strategy, mentor a team of solicitors and manage a high‑value caseload for SMEs and larger commercial clients.

Key responsibilities

• Set and deliver the strategic vision for the Company Commercial department.
• Lead, mentor and develop a team of junior and senior lawyers.
• Manage complex transactional work including M&A, shareholder agreements, commercial contracts, restructures, joint ventures and governance matters.
• Act as a trusted advisor to owner‑managed businesses and high‑value commercial clients.
• Drive business development and generate new client work.
• Contribute to firm‑wide strategic initiatives.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with at least 8 years post‑qualification experience in company commercial or corporate law.
• Proven track record of handling complex transactional and advisory matters.
• Experience supervising or mentoring junior lawyers.
• Strong business development record.
• Commercially astute with strategic and operational thinking.
• Ambition to take on a senior leadership role.

Required skills

• Expertise in corporate transactions, shareholder agreements and commercial contracts.
• Ability to advise on restructures, joint ventures and governance issues.
