Head of Finance

About the role

As the Head of Finance you will lead the finance function for a fast‑growing SME group based near Rochdale. The role is hands‑on and strategic, providing accurate financial information to support growth, acquisitions and operational decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the day‑to‑day finance function.
• Deliver timely and accurate month‑end reporting.
• Produce flash reports across ledgers, creditors, cash flow, balance sheet and P&L.
• Drive strong financial controls, processes and discipline.
• Provide commercial insight on performance, profitability, cash flow and working capital.
• Support acquisition activity, integration and post‑acquisition reporting.
• Improve systems and processes as the group scales.
• Support strategic planning and growth initiatives across the group.

Required profile

• Previous experience as Head of Finance, Financial Controller or a similar senior finance role.
• Strong experience in SME or owner‑managed businesses.
• Excellent month‑end, cash‑flow, P&L and balance‑sheet reporting skills.
• Proven ability to implement and maintain robust financial controls and process improvements.
• Commercial awareness with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Experience of acquisitions, integration or high‑growth environments (advantageous).
• Hands‑on, resilient and detail‑focused approach.
• Manufacturing, engineering, facilities services or contracting sector experience useful but not essential.
