Head of Hard Flooring Transformation

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic Head of Hard Flooring Transformation to steer the commercial strategy of one of the UK’s leading retail flooring businesses. Based in a hybrid UK setting, you will own the entire flooring category, shaping product ranges and driving profitable growth across domestic and international markets.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a long‑term buying and category strategy for hard flooring, covering carpets, laminate, LVT, engineered wood, vinyl and accessories.
• Identify emerging consumer trends and translate them into market‑leading product propositions.
• Lead supplier selection, negotiations and contract management with UK and overseas manufacturers.
• Drive margin improvement, cost optimisation and overall commercial performance.
• Collaborate with merchandising, pricing, stock investment and marketing teams to ensure successful product launches and promotions.
• Coach, mentor and develop a high‑performing buying team.

Required profile

• Proven senior buying experience within flooring, home improvement, DIY, interiors or related building‑product sectors.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop buying teams.
• Strong commercial acumen and deep understanding of category management.
• Excellent negotiation and supplier‑management capabilities.
• Experience sourcing products on an international scale.
• Data‑driven decision‑making with solid analytical skills.
• Customer‑first mindset and passion for product.
