Head of Health, Safety & Environment

About the role

We are partnering with a leading specialist contractor that delivers some of the UK’s most complex infrastructure and construction projects. The Head of Health, Safety & Environment will sit on the senior management team, shaping HSE strategy, driving culture and ensuring compliance across multiple high‑profile sites.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and continuously improve the company’s Health, Safety & Environmental Management Systems.
• Act as the organisation’s competent person for health & safety, providing expert guidance to directors and project teams.
• Manage, mentor and develop a team of Health & Safety Advisors.
• Ensure compliance with ISO standards, UK legislation and CDM Regulations.
• Lead audits, inspections and accident investigations, and champion continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide commercially focused HSE advice to operational teams and promote environmental best practice and sustainability.

Required profile

• Significant leadership experience in health & safety within construction or a related sector.
• Proven record of improving HSE systems, culture and performance.
• Strong ability to influence senior stakeholders and operational teams.
• Deep knowledge of UK health & safety legislation and CDM Regulations.
• Excellent communication, coaching and leadership capabilities.
• Commercially aware with a solutions‑focused approach.
