Head of Health & Safety

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Head of Health & Safety to lead a high‑performing H&S function in a fast‑paced, heavily regulated environment. This senior leadership position carries full accountability for strategy, compliance and culture across a multi‑site operation, with direct influence on executive and board stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement a comprehensive Health & Safety strategy aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements.
• Own all H&S policies, processes and procedures for field and office teams.
• Drive performance against H&S KPIs, ensuring clear reporting, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Lead external audits and regulatory inspections to achieve successful outcomes.
• Identify, monitor and mitigate organisational health and safety risks.
• Build and embed a safety‑first culture at every level of the business.
• Provide strategic advice to C‑suite and board stakeholders.
• Ensure full compliance with UK H&S legislation and industry standards.
• Develop leadership capability through coaching, mentoring and engagement.
• Innovate H&S systems, tools and ways of working.

Required profile

• Proven senior H&S leadership experience in a regulated, operational environment.
• Track record of influencing executive and board‑level stakeholders.
• Experience managing health and safety in field‑based or infrastructure‑led operations.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, highly regulated setting.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management and organisational planning skills.
• Relevant H&S qualification (minimum IOSH; NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent desirable).
