Head of Labs – Data Science, AI, LLMs, Agentic AI, Remote Travel

About the role

This senior position leads a remote‑first AI and Data Science lab, reporting to senior leadership and travelling to the London office as required. You will shape the organisation's AI strategy, drive innovation and ensure compliance within a heavily regulated environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and expand the Data Science and AI labs, overseeing LLM, SLM and Agentic AI projects.
• Manage a multidisciplinary team, providing mentorship and building future capability.
• Maintain strong senior stakeholder relationships and navigate complex governance frameworks.
• Oversee third‑party vendors and large development/data teams.
• Run blue‑sky research programmes and translate findings into product road‑maps.
• Prioritise product backlogs, write detailed user stories and drive sprint delivery.
• Track, analyse and report KPIs to guide continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a regulated sector with strict governance compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to lead through failure, lift team morale and deliver results.
• Strong senior stakeholder and vendor management experience.
• Academic background in Computer Science, Data Science or a related field.
• Comfortable with rapid change and high‑speed delivery environments.
