Head of Maintenance – Care Home

About the role

As Head of Maintenance at a Barchester care home you will ensure a clean, safe and well‑maintained environment for residents and staff. The role combines hands‑on repairs, garden work and facilities management with team leadership and budget planning.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the building, plant and grounds, responding to repairs such as fixing leaks or planting bulbs.
• Lead and develop the maintenance team, organising rotas and training.
• Support the General Manager with annual budget planning and cost control.
• Liaise with external contractors for specialist works beyond the team’s expertise.
• Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out with sensitivity to residents’ needs.

Required profile

• Commitment to resident wellbeing and safety.
• Hands‑on property maintenance experience with at least one trade skill.
• Reliability, flexibility in working hours and ability to work independently.
• Full UK driving licence.
• IT literacy and GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
