Head of Private Client Department

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Head of Private Client to lead and grow our established Private Client department at a respected law firm in Gloucestershire. The role combines strategic leadership with hands‑on legal work, allowing you to shape the team while maintaining a personal caseload of high‑value matters.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, develop and mentor the Private Client team, fostering a collaborative and high‑performance culture.
• Manage your own caseload covering wills, estate planning, probate, trusts, lasting powers of attorney and inheritance tax advice.
• Drive departmental growth through business development and client relationship management.
• Oversee quality control, compliance and risk management across all Private Client matters.
• Contribute to firm‑wide initiatives and strategic planning.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with at least 7 years post‑qualification experience in Private Client work.
• Proven leadership or supervisory experience within a legal team.
• Strong client‑relationship and business‑development capabilities.
• Ability to balance a busy personal caseload with departmental responsibilities.
