Head of Property and Facilities

About the role

The Royal Institution is seeking a senior leader to direct its Property and Facilities function. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Resources, you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Grade I listed building on Albemarle Street, ensuring it remains a safe, compliant and welcoming venue for staff, visitors, tenants and commercial partners.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a long‑term property and facilities strategy based on condition surveys and the Conservation Management Plan.
• Act as custodian of the heritage building, balancing preservation with active, multi‑use requirements.
• Oversee all facilities management services, including hard services, health and safety, fire safety and statutory compliance.
• Lead capital works, refurbishment and sustainability projects with strong governance and value for money.
• Manage property and facilities budgets, procurement processes, tenders and insurance.
• Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, tenants, consultants and contractors.
• Lead, develop and motivate the Property and Facilities team, fostering a proactive service‑focused culture.

Required profile

• Significant senior‑level experience in property and facilities management, preferably within a heritage, cultural or public‑facing environment.
• Proven ability to manage complex buildings, multiple stakeholders and competing priorities at both strategic and operational levels.
• Strong knowledge of building systems, statutory compliance and financial management of capital projects.
