Head of Risk & Compliance

About the role

This prestigious US law firm, based in stylish new offices near Liverpool Street, is looking for a Head of Risk & Compliance to lead its UK and European compliance function. You will be responsible for ensuring the firm meets the highest standards of governance, regulatory compliance and risk management.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day management of UK and European risk and compliance, supporting the COLP, COFA, MLRO and DPO.
• Develop, implement and continuously improve compliance policies, procedures, systems and the risk‑management framework.
• Act as primary liaison with regulators, handling investigations, information requests and data‑protection matters.
• Monitor regulatory developments, provide expert advice and ensure alignment with legal requirements.
• Conduct compliance audits and risk assessments, driving best practice across the firm.
• Design and deliver training for attorneys and business‑services staff to foster a strong compliance culture.
• Oversee investigation and reporting of compliance breaches and client complaints, ensuring appropriate regulatory reporting.
• Benchmark the firm’s compliance framework against market best practice and maintain key documentation.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in a similar compliance role within a law firm.
• Strong knowledge of SRA Standards, AML rules, GDPR, data‑protection legislation and KYC processes.
• Judgement to balance commercial and compliance risks.
• Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and tact.

Required skills

• IT skills and computer literacy.
• Knowledge of SRA Standards and Regulations.
• Experience with AML rules and procedures.
• Familiarity with data‑protection legislation (GDPR).
• Understanding of KYC processes.
