Head of Risk

About the role

MERJE Ltd, a leading FCA‑regulated financial services organisation, is seeking an experienced Head of Risk to shape and enhance its enterprise risk management framework. This senior leadership position works closely with the Executive team and the Board to embed risk strategy, governance and operational resilience across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and continuous improvement of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
• Design and embed a risk‑based governance programme throughout the organisation.
• Develop processes for risk identification, assessment, mitigation and monitoring.
• Own the Risk Appetite Framework, Risk Registers and Board reporting.
• Partner with senior stakeholders to embed risk into strategic decision‑making.
• Lead the Operational Resilience strategy, incident management and root‑cause analysis.
• Collaborate with Internal Audit to ensure effective oversight of key risks.
• Produce insightful reports for Executive Committees and the Board.
• Drive a strong, positive risk culture and develop a high‑performing risk team.

Required profile

• Strong background in Enterprise Risk, Operational Risk, Governance or Risk & Compliance leadership.
• Experience within an FCA‑regulated environment (insurance experience is a plus).
• Deep knowledge of enterprise risk frameworks and governance best practice.
• Proven ability to lead Operational Resilience programmes.
• Understanding of SMCR, AML and broader regulatory requirements.
• Excellent influencing, challenging and stakeholder‑engagement skills at Executive and Board level.
• Demonstrated leadership experience with a track record of building successful teams.
