Head of Strategic Planning

About the role

We are looking for an experienced and inspiring planning professional to join our Senior Leadership Team as Head of Strategic Planning. You will lead the planning function for the Cotswold National Landscape, ensuring that the statutory purpose of conserving and enhancing the area’s natural beauty is central to all planning decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the organisation’s planning function and embed statutory objectives in policy and decision‑making.
• Provide expert strategic advice to local planning authorities and other key stakeholders.
• Advocate for the Landscape’s interests and ensure its special qualities are recognised and protected.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with the 15 local authorities, government departments, national agencies and partner organisations.
• Contribute to the Senior Leadership Team’s strategic direction and organisational impact.
• Travel throughout the Cotswolds National Landscape as required.

Required profile

• Significant experience in strategic planning within a protected‑area or environmental context.
• Strong leadership, partnership‑building and communication abilities.
• Commitment to the organisation’s mission of delivering impact beyond its size.
• Willingness to work hybrid, with a minimum of two days per week in the office.
