Health and Safety Manager – FMCG Manufacturing

About the role

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading FMCG food manufacturing company for an experienced Health, Safety and Environment Manager. The role will drive compliance, safety culture and environmental sustainability across the site.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations including PUWER, Working at Height, Confined Space, Legionella, DSEAR, Fire Safety and Manual Handling.
• Act as the main contact for regulatory authorities such as HSE and the Fire Authority.
• Lead H&S meetings, manage the risk‑assessment programme and oversee corrective actions from investigations.
• Coordinate accident reporting, RIDDOR submissions and insurance compliance (Written Schemes).
• Conduct safety management system audits across all business areas.
• Support HR with health surveillance, manage occupational health clinics and maintain accurate records.
• Audit facilities for health risks and assist with health capability assessments.
• Monitor energy usage, drive reduction programmes and maintain statutory and corporate environmental reporting.
• Participate in sustainability initiatives and develop ISO 45001/ISO 14001 management systems.

Required profile

• Manufacturing background in FMCG or a similar industry.
• 5+ years in a senior safety management role with SHE responsibilities.
• NEBOSH Diploma and professional membership (IOSH/IEMA preferred), ideally chartered.
• Strong knowledge of key safety legislation and industrial hazards.
• Experience developing ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
• Proven ability to work with external authorities (HSE, EHO).
• Training and mentoring experience with a flexible approach to 24/7 operations.
