Health Care Support Worker – Phlebotomy Service

About the role

The Health Care Support Worker will join the Glasgow City Wide Phlebotomy Service, delivering blood sampling and health promotion to patients in both clinical and home settings. Working under the direction of a registered nurse, you will help maintain independent living for a diverse patient population.

Key responsibilities

• Collect blood samples by venepuncture as directed by nursing staff.
• Label, handle and document specimens according to protocol.
• Inform patients about appointment times and manage domiciliary visit schedules.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and report incidents, including needlestick injuries.
• Ensure phlebotomy equipment is clean, safe and ready for use.
• Support patients in emergency situations by providing basic life support.

Required profile

• Minimum SVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Commitment to patient confidentiality and data protection legislation.
