Healthcare Assistant – Assistant Practitioner

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Practitioner / Healthcare Assistant to join our busy primary care team at St Peter’s Health Centre. This role combines clinical and administrative duties, supporting a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care in a supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform new patient health checks and record baseline observations (BP, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation).
• Support health‑promotion and chronic disease management clinics.
• Carry out venepuncture, ECGs and routine clinical procedures.
• Administer flu vaccinations when trained and provide wound care, dressings, and minor clinical interventions.
• Assist with minor procedures and act as a chaperone.
• Prepare and maintain clinical rooms, equipment, and stock levels.
• Ensure accurate clinical documentation, record keeping and specimen handling.
• Deliver patient education and opportunistic health promotion.

Required profile

• Healthcare qualification (Level 3 or equivalent) or working towards it.
• Experience working in a healthcare setting.
• Competence in venepuncture and ECGs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good IT skills and ability to maintain accurate patient records.
• Desirable: experience in primary care or GP practice, phlebotomy/vaccination certification, knowledge of SystmOne or EMIS, wound‑care experience.
