Healthcare Assistant – Secure Mental Health Setting

About the role

We are seeking a caring and resilient Healthcare Assistant to join our secure mental health team at Thornford Park Hospital. You will work in a medium and low secure forensic environment, supporting individuals with complex mental health needs, personality disorders, learning disabilities and autism.

Key responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, person‑centred care to service users at all stages of recovery.
• Support ward rounds, observe behaviours and contribute to responsive care plans.
• Assist with daily personal care tasks, promoting dignity and independence.
• Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic, tailored support.

Required profile

• Natural empathy, patience and resilience.
• Strong communication and emotional awareness.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
• Positive attitude and commitment to person‑centred care.
• Mental health experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
