About the role

The Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) will work closely with the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) to ensure pupils with SEND have full access to learning. This permanent, school‑based position supports teachers in managing classrooms and delivering targeted interventions.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver and monitor one‑to‑one and small‑group interventions for pupils with SEND.
  • Collaborate with the SENDCo to develop individual support plans.
  • Provide general classroom support to teachers, including behaviour management and resource preparation.
  • Share oversight of teaching assistants, coordinating their work to maximise impact.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and intervention outcomes.

Required profile

  • Level 2 HLTA qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience working with young people, preferably in a school setting.
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team.
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills.

Required skills

  • Knowledge of SEND legislation and best practice.
  • Effective communication with pupils, staff and parents.
  • Organisational skills for managing multiple interventions.
