Homeless Assessment Officer – Temporary, West London

About the role

Join a leading local authority client as a Homeless Assessment Officer on a six‑month temporary contract. Working hybrid – two days a week in the client’s office near Heathrow – you will deliver front‑of‑house housing advice and assessments to both priority and non‑priority customers.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct detailed assessments of homeless applications in line with Part VII of the Housing Act 1996, especially where prevention or relief is not viable.
• Provide clear, timely information to applicants about assessment outcomes and their housing rights.
• Advise tenants on re‑housing options, benefits, tenancy issues and legal matters such as rent arrears.
• Support the development of policies aimed at reducing tenant arrears and promoting housing stability.
• Attend court hearings on behalf of the organisation and present well‑prepared cases.
• Maintain accurate records, reports and administrative documentation to ensure compliance.

Required profile

• Thorough understanding of housing legislation, homelessness policy and housing management.
• Practical knowledge of common housing challenges faced by tenants.
• Ability to start on short notice (1‑2 weeks) and work hybridly two days per week.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with tenants, partners and legal bodies.
