Hospitality, Supermarket Assistant

About the role

Waitrose in Welwyn Garden City is looking for a Hospitality, Supermarket Assistant to work on its service counters. You will help customers choose ethically sourced food, recommend recipes and build lasting relationships with shoppers, while supporting sales and profit. The role is temporary, with varied part-time hours across seven days including early starts, late finishes, evenings and weekends.

Key responsibilities

• Take responsibility for your own food counter, keeping presentation and hygiene standards high
• Keep track of stock levels so customers' favourite products are always available
• Handle open food carefully and follow health and safety protocols, helping to reduce food wastage
• Stay up to date with new products and understand Waitrose's food values, such as animal welfare
• Support the wider shop team with general shopkeeping tasks when needed

Required profile

• Communication skills to work well as part of a team and with customers
• Desirable: experience in a customer-facing role, in catering or hospitality, and up-to-date knowledge of food and drink trends
• A flexible approach to support the whole branch

What we offer

• Pay of £13.00, rising to £13.25 after 90 days
• Night premium of £3.75 per hour for work between 22:00 and 06:00
