HR Advisor – Generalist Role in Portsmouth

About the role

We are recruiting on behalf of a growing business in Portsmouth for an experienced HR Advisor. The role is a generalist position covering employee relations, performance management, policy development and recruitment support. You will work in a fast‑paced environment where the people function has a seat at the strategic table.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day HR advice on performance, absence, disciplinary and grievance matters.
• Coach line managers through HR processes, ensuring fairness and legal compliance.
• Manage employee relations cases end‑to‑end with accurate documentation.
• Support recruitment activities, including job description drafting, interview coordination and offer management.
• Assist in developing, reviewing and implementing HR policies and procedures.
• Contribute to HR projects such as engagement surveys, wellbeing programmes and learning initiatives.
• Maintain accurate HR data, produce reports and management information as required.
• Stay up to date with employment legislation and advise the business accordingly.

Required profile

• Proven experience in an HR Advisor or similar generalist role.
• Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practice.
• Experience handling employee relations cases, including disciplinary and grievance procedures.
• CIPD Level 5 qualified or working towards it, or equivalent experience.
• Confident communicator able to build credible relationships at all levels.
• Organised, detail‑oriented and able to manage a varied workload.
• Pragmatic, solutions‑focused approach to HR.
• Based in London or able to commute to London regularly.
