Immigration and Public Law Solicitor

About the role

Asylum Aid is looking for an experienced Immigration and Public Law Solicitor to lead a strategic public‑law caseload. You will work closely with the Public Law Supervisor and Director of Legal Casework to drive change through strategic litigation, representing clients in asylum, human‑rights and judicial‑review matters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and representation on asylum, human‑rights and immigration judicial‑review cases.
• Identify systemic issues across the team’s caseload and develop strategic litigation proposals.
• Attend external meetings and contribute to sector‑wide strategy discussions on behalf of Asylum Aid.
• Apply for Legal Aid Agency funding, manage case costs, and submit payment claims.
• Maintain accurate client files in line with file‑management procedures.
• Supervise and train staff in judicial‑review procedures where required.
• Ensure legal‑aid income targets are met and maximised.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with solid experience in asylum and public law.
• Strong knowledge of judicial‑review procedures and legal‑aid funding processes.
• Proven track record representing clients in complex immigration and human‑rights matters.
• Understanding of forced migration, asylum systems and human‑rights law.

Required skills

• Expertise in judicial‑review litigation.
• Ability to analyse case files to spot strategic litigation opportunities.
• Experience preparing and managing Legal Aid applications.
