In-House Tax Manager

About the role

This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of tax for a large, purpose‑led organisation in the Manchester area. As the In‑House Tax Manager you will become the key tax specialist within the group finance function, advising senior stakeholders and overseeing a broad range of compliance, reporting and planning matters.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit accurate Corporation Tax, VAT and employment tax returns on time.
• Advise finance and operational teams on the tax implications of business decisions, projects and transactions.
• Act as the primary contact for external tax advisers and HMRC, coordinating information requests.
• Monitor UK tax and accounting legislation changes, assess impact and communicate required actions.
• Identify and implement tax‑planning opportunities while maintaining strong governance.
• Support regulatory returns and improve tax, reporting and compliance processes.
• Develop policies and procedures in line with new accounting standards and tax rules.
• Enhance finance systems and data usage to improve reporting efficiency.
• Build strong internal relationships and become a trusted tax adviser.

Required profile

• ACA or CTA qualification preferred; ATT, ACCA or CIMA also considered.
• Recent experience as Corporate Tax Manager, Assistant Manager or equivalent in an accountancy practice or in‑house role.
• Strong knowledge of UK corporation tax legislation, compliance and reporting requirements.
• Proven ability to advise stakeholders on complex tax matters clearly and practically.
• Experience working with external advisers and tax authorities.
