Independent Living Maintenance Officer

About the role

We are seeking a proactive, customer‑focused Independent Living Maintenance Officer to join BPHA’s facilities team. In this hands‑on position you will ensure that our independent living schemes across Bedford and surrounding sites remain safe, well‑maintained and welcoming for residents.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out minor repairs and routine maintenance in communal areas and individual properties.
• Plan, schedule and prioritise maintenance tasks to minimise disruption.
• Conduct monthly estate inspections, identify issues and report them.
• Maintain health and safety standards throughout all work activities.
• Supervise and coordinate external contractors on site.
• Track repair requests, update records and escalate where necessary.
• Communicate effectively with residents, colleagues and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Previous experience in building maintenance or repair work.
• Strong organisational abilities and the capacity to work independently.
• Excellent customer service mindset.
• Full UK driving licence and reliable access to a vehicle.

Required skills

• Competence with basic hand and power tools.
• Familiarity with health and safety regulations.
• Ability to use IT systems for work orders and reporting.
