Infrastructure Support Engineer – Remote (UK)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join a major transformation programme for a leading client. The role is primarily remote with occasional travel to Peterborough and offers the chance to work on a large‑scale enterprise environment, combining day‑to‑day operational support with project‑based infrastructure delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Deploy and configure servers, storage, services and supporting infrastructure.
• Monitor system performance, availability and security across enterprise environments.
• Manage patching, firmware updates and routine maintenance activities.
• Support backup operations, integrity checks and disaster‑recovery processes.
• Assist with troubleshooting, capacity planning and performance optimisation.
• Maintain datacentre systems and virtualised environments (VMware, vSAN, NSX‑T).
• Drive workload automation and operational improvement initiatives.
• Work within established Change Management and ITIL‑aligned processes.

Required profile

• Previous experience in an Infrastructure Engineer or Systems Engineer role.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities.
• Comfortable working across both operational support and project delivery.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities and communicate effectively.
• Experience following structured IT operations and change‑control processes.

• Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, PowerShell, Certificate Services.
• SQL High Availability Clusters, Patch Management.
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Satellite Server administration.
• VMware vCenter/vSphere, vSAN, NSX‑T, VMware CLI, vRealize Operations, Log Insight.
• Dell EMC VxRail, RecoverPoint for VMs, Data Domain/PowerProtect, Isilon, Dell Switching (OS6/OS9/OS10), iDRAC, Secure Connect Gateway.
• WSUS, SolarWinds Patch Manager, McAfee, Secret Server, SFTP platforms, Proxy administration.
