Interim Accountant – Birkenhead

About the role
This interim accountant position supports the Finance lead and the wider finance team in Birkenhead. You will be responsible for key month‑end activities, help improve existing processes and provide additional support across the finance function.
Key responsibilities
- Support month‑end close activities, including posting journals and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Manage banking processes and perform reconciliations.
- Assist with cash‑flow reporting and forecasting.
- Process monthly payroll for around 120 salaried employees and handle payroll adjustments such as overtime, bonuses and other changes.
- Review and improve existing finance processes.
- Support system improvements and automation initiatives.
Required profile
- SME finance/accounting background.
- Previous experience in a similar accountant role.
- Confidence in managing month‑end processes independently.
- Strong payroll knowledge and experience with SAGE Payroll.
- Proficient working knowledge of SAGE accounting software.
